How people join our text alerts

Puppy Therapy meets people in person — on campuses, at shopping centers, in parks and at private events. Nobody is added to our text alerts by us. A person joins only by sending us a text themselves.

1. Trading cards

Handed out at events. The general sign-up keyword is PUPPY.

2. Event signs

Posted at each Pop-Up. Each location has its own keyword so we can let people know when we’re coming back to that spot — for example FENTON, BIRKDALE, CARY, UNC, CARMEL.

3. What happens next

• The person sends the keyword from their own phone. That text is their consent, and we record the keyword, the time and the printed wording they saw.
• Our first reply confirms the subscription: “Puppy Therapy: You’re in for puppy Pop-Up alerts & puppy news! Up to 4 msgs/mo. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.”
• A second reply asks what they’d like to hear about and their ZIP code, so we only text what’s relevant to them.
• Replying STOP at any time ends all messages.
